Recent value shifts among Buddhism's educated Western adherents regarding gender and sexuality have reflected in American Buddhist communities, despite traditional Buddhist world disagreements. We can anticipate future changes—perhaps abandoning ideological universalism or sharper "mindfulness" industry criticism—similarly manifesting. Whether American Buddhism generates politically radical factions like Myanmar's or rediscovers Buddhist folk culture appreciation will depend on this constituency's attitudes.
